337/366 - "Brew Day"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/160, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

Today was a brew day and a seasonal beer was the recipe of the day.  This part of the process is called sparging, in which very hot water is poured through the grains and then captured in our kettle to boil in a later step.  If you would like to see how the overall process looks for our brew club, then check out Day 119/366.

302/366 - "Sunday, Beer, and Football"

(F/2.2, 50mm, 1/25 sec, ISO 200, Canon 5D Mk II)

This rainy Sunday I did what many do.  Cracked open a beer and watched some football.  Not my best photo, and that is probably because I am so close to the end and getting tired.  Sometimes any photo is good enough.

294/366 - "10/20"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/125 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

Yesterday was our 10/20 Brewfest.  Thanks to all those that participated in any way and a special thanks to Jim and Carol for hosting it.  Everyone had a great time enjoying great food, beers, and fun.  Hopefully this will become an annual event.

272/366 - "Bottle Caps"

(F/11, 100mm, 2 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

I learned today is National Drink a Beer Day.  So instead of the normal photo of a glass or bottle of beer, I decided to pour out a bag of bottle caps we are saving for a friend.  Nice to see quite a few of our home brews in this mix.  Hope you enjoy your beer today!

265/366 - "Punkin"

(F/3.2, 50mm, 1/320 sec, ISO 200, Canon 7D)

It is that time of year.  I was able to pick up a case of Dogfish Punkin a few weeks ago.  Tonight felt like a fall evening and Sue enjoyed a Punkin on the deck.

259/366 - "Hop"

(F/7.1 , 200mm, 1/125 sec, ISO 400, Canon 5D Mk II)

This particular Saturday was  a brew day at the Callender Estate.  While we were waiting for the water to boil, I snuck out to the Hop Garden and snapped a few shots.

We had a couple of friend over tonight for a few beers.  It is always nice to catch up while enjoying some good beer.

215/366 - "Bottle"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

I was trying to figure out what to shoot tonight, so I decided to do a macro of an empty bottle.

206/366 - "Beer and Bikes"

(F/8, 17mm, 1/60 sec, ISO 200, Canon 5D Mk II)

If anyone ever says biking and beer don't go together, I have proof they do.  It is a perfect fit!  This is four cases of empty bottles just waiting to be bottled with the next home brew and my bike.

133/366 - "Hanging Out"

(F/4, 24mm, 1/400 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

We were supposed to go kayaking but the river was moving a little to fast, so instead we decided to head to the South Side Works area of town to walk around, shop, and drink some beers.  We had a great time especially at OTB, which is where this is taken.

119/366 - "The Sparge"

(F/4, 22mm, 1/25 sec, ISO 1000, Canon 5D Mk II)

Yesterday was a crazy busy day.  We had soccer in the morning, brewing beer in the afternoon, and then a birthday party in the evening for Grizz.  I took a few photos during a process called sparging.  This is the beginning of the process and once Shawn feels the liquid is ready "The Sparge" will begin.

63/366 - "Lined Up"

(F/4, 35mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 200, Canon 7D)

The Green's came over tonight for burgers, beers, and to watch some basketball.  While I was waiting for them to show up I noticed that the beers in the fridge were lined up so nice and neat ready to be enjoyed.  Well, I am happy to report that we did enjoy them.  It is always good hanging out and letting the kids play, and by kids I mean Greg and I.  Jonah and James got to play too.  I had planned to take an after shot with all the bottle caps in the fridge, but Sue happened to throw them out before I got the chance.

49/366 - "Beer"

(F/8, 24mm, 1/800 sec, ISO 500, Canon 7D)

Yesterday, I was able to take part in brewing some beer.  This photograph of day was taken during the "boil" which is towards the end of the process.  Below are several shots taken before and after the boil.  Now we have to wait 4 weeks or so until it can be bottled.

18/366 - "Black IPA"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/250 sec, ISO 100, Canon 7D)

So several months ago I was to take part in a home brew with some guys from work.  They even let me pick out the kit, and I picked out a "Black IPA".  Well, when it was time to actually brew this batch I had to be in Dallas for a conference.  The guys were nice enough to let me help in the bottling process in December.  I have been waiting patiently to open and try one and tonight was the night.  I will have to say that it is quite nice and will only get better the longer I let them age, which will be tough.  Even though that I was warned that it might be lacking carbonation and I could return them to Jim for a quick fix, I think that it is fine.
