352/366 - "Movie Monday"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/10 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

(F/8, 100mm, 1/10 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

A couple of weeks ago Jim gave me a few pieces of movie film strip for some macro shots.  The pieces he gave me were from a movie called "The Chronicles Of: Narnia The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe."  He received them from a friend of his that used to work at a movie theater.  Jim also provided a photograph (below) from the same movie, and provided an explanation about the anatomy of the film strip.

From Jim: "35mm film print frames.  At far left and far right, outside of the KS-size perforations, is the SDDS soundtrack as an image of a digital signal.  Between the perforations is the Dolby Digital soundtrack (note the tiny Dolby "Double D" logo in the center of each area.)  To the right of this is the stereophonic analogue soundtrack, optically recorded as waveforms containing the audio signals for the left and right audio channels.  In the center is the anamorphic picture.  Anamorphic is a technique of shooting widescreen picture on a standard 35mm film.  The anamorphic projector stretches the image to widescreen format."

350/366 - "Train"

(F/5, 100mm, 1/50 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Every year we celebrate Christmas with my dad, step-mom, and little brother Seth a couple weeks early.  Over the years my dad has accumulated quite the model train set and recently he has been setting them up for everyone to enjoy.  I was able to get this shot while Seth was showing Jonah how to operate the controls and blow the whistle.

345/366 - "Oil and Water"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/6 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Everyone has heard the saying "Oil and water don't mix."  Today's photo is inspired by this saying, so I mixed a little olive oil and some water, placed the drinking glass on top of a colorful background, and snapped some photos.  Then a little post processing to clean it up, add some contrast, and there you have it, my version of an "Oil and Water" abstract.  I think I am going to re-size this one and Day 194 to use as wallpaper for my PC screens at work.

331/366 - "Purple Close, Purple Far"

(F/8, 100mm, 6.0 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

I decided to do a macro shot today, and since Sue and the kids decorated the house this weekend, I should have enough inspiration to get me through a few more days.  Do you have a ceramic tree?  We have two and I remember growing up with several adorning the house during the holidays.

317/366 - "Colorful Line"

(F/6.3, 100mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

The kids were coloring tonight and when they were finished I lined them all up.  I started to try and get all the print facing the same way but that was fruitless and I was in a bit of a hurry.

313/366 - "Saltine"

(F/11, 100mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

I had a few saltines this evening and decided that a saltine would probably make a nice macro shot.  The detailed pieces of salt, the dimples, and the toasted cracker turned out to make a decent photo.

304/366 - "Snack Time"

(F/3.2, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Most of the schools in the area were closed today due to Hurricane Sandy, so Jonah stayed home with me.  At 3:00pm on the nose Jonah requested some Star Wars fruit snacks and I had some as well while I was working.

303/366 - "Pen and Paper"

(F/8, 100mm, 4.0 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

With a rainy day today and forecasted for the next several days there may be several macro photos in the future.  Even with all the technology that I surround myself with on a daily basis I still love my Moleskine notebook and pen for note taking.

294/366 - "10/20"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/125 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

Yesterday was our 10/20 Brewfest.  Thanks to all those that participated in any way and a special thanks to Jim and Carol for hosting it.  Everyone had a great time enjoying great food, beers, and fun.  Hopefully this will become an annual event.

292/366 - "Gullwing"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Jonah was playing the other day with some of his cars.  This one has some special meaning because my grandpa had the 1956 version and I was lucky enough to get to ride in it as a kid.  Unfortunately he sold it in the early 1980's before I was able to drive it.

282/366 - "Morning Mums"

(F/4, 100mm, 1/160 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Our neighbors back yard is packed full of mums.  I had to go out this morning while there was still some morning dew on them to get a shot.

280/366 - "Morning Toadstool"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/50 sec, ISO 400, Canon 5D Mk II)

I was outside this morning putting away the porch furniture and raking leaves.  I haven't cut the grass in a few weeks which has resulted in several toadstools popping up in our yard.

272/366 - "Bottle Caps"

(F/11, 100mm, 2 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

I learned today is National Drink a Beer Day.  So instead of the normal photo of a glass or bottle of beer, I decided to pour out a bag of bottle caps we are saving for a friend.  Nice to see quite a few of our home brews in this mix.  Hope you enjoy your beer today!

268/366 - "Acorn"

(F/8, 100mm, 0.3 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Yesterday we took a walk and collect buckeyes and acorns.  Since today is macro Monday, I decided to grab one of the acorns and give it the macro touch.

261/366 - "Stapler"

(F/11 , 100mm, 1.6 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Here is my entry for macro Monday.  Just a stapler on my desk at home.

260/366 - "Daisy"

(F/7.1 , 100mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 200, Canon 5D Mk II)

I was outside today and decided to get low and take some shots of these daisies from a bugs view.

254/366 - "Perfect Circles"

(F/10, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

I am trying to follow a couple of themes today.  The first is macro Monday, so here is a macro shot of an object in my house.  If you can figure it out, good for you.  If you can't, oh well, better luck next time.  The second theme is monochrome Monday, so I made it a black and white shot too.

252/366 - "Green Tomatos"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/50 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

After we got back from the Big Pour this afternoon, we decided to go outside and play.  Sue decided to work in the garden and picked many tomatos.  Looks like we will have one more harvest of the cherry tomatos.

251/366 - "Bean"

(F/5, 100mm, 1/50 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

As the summer comes to an end so does our garden.  Sue pulled out the cucumbers last weekend and I think the beans are soon to follow.

249/366 - "One Week"

(F/5.6, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 400, Canon 5D Mk II)

Pretty much everyone knows by now that Apple will be unveiling the new iPhone one week from today.  There are many improvements I am sure, and the one that I am least happy about it the rumored change concerning the 30 pin connector.  That is the end of the cord that you plug in to your outlet to charge iDevices.  I have an investment in these 30 pin charging cords and we probably have 10-12 as a family.  Hopefully there is an adapter that will be reasonably priced.
