305/366 - "Carving Delayed"

(F/4, 25mm, 1/40 sec, ISO 100, Canon 7D)

We were going to carve pumpkins on Monday or Tuesday night for tonights originally scheduled Halloween.  However, due to Hurricane Sandy just about every Trick-or-Treat in the area has been rescheduled for Saturday.  Therefore, we will be carving these babies on Friday night.

304/366 - "Snack Time"

(F/3.2, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Most of the schools in the area were closed today due to Hurricane Sandy, so Jonah stayed home with me.  At 3:00pm on the nose Jonah requested some Star Wars fruit snacks and I had some as well while I was working.

303/366 - "Pen and Paper"

(F/8, 100mm, 4.0 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

With a rainy day today and forecasted for the next several days there may be several macro photos in the future.  Even with all the technology that I surround myself with on a daily basis I still love my Moleskine notebook and pen for note taking.

302/366 - "Sunday, Beer, and Football"

(F/2.2, 50mm, 1/25 sec, ISO 200, Canon 5D Mk II)

This rainy Sunday I did what many do.  Cracked open a beer and watched some football.  Not my best photo, and that is probably because I am so close to the end and getting tired.  Sometimes any photo is good enough.

301/366 - "Owen"

(F/4, 105mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 400, Canon 5D Mk II)

This is Harper's friend Owen from her "old" school.  She misses him and we were able to meet up with Owen and his family at the annual Halloween Parade in Oakmont.  This was taken after the parade while all the kids were running around playing.  Owen was pointing out that there was a train across the river.

300/366 - "Camera Tossing"

(F/8, 5mm, 1.0 sec, ISO 100, Canon PowerShot SX200 IS)

So it is day 300, and I am still going somewhat strong.  I was surfing the interwebs the other day and stumbled upon a photographic technique called camera tossing.  Google it, there are some pretty amazing photos out there using this technique.  Anyway, I wanted to do something different to mark the occasion of day 300 and this is it.  I spent about 10 minutes tossing my camera in the air watching it spin out of control hoping to catch it before it crashed down on the floor.  This is actually quite addicting trying to get the timing right checking every photo to see what is captured.  I highly recommend this and I suggest a Point & Shoot camera that you are willing to break, because you will drop it at some point.

299/366 - "Double Yellow"

(F/8, 17mm, 0.3 sec, ISO 800, Canon 7D)

Like many of my photos lately, taken while sitting in traffic.

298/366 - "Drive By Landscape - Allegheny River"

(F/8, 17mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 400, Canon 7D)

This morning the sunrise was particularly nice.  While Jonah and I were sitting in traffic on the Hulton Bridge on our way to school, I was able to snap this photo out the passenger side window.  I love when the river looks perfectly still.

297/366 - "Fall"

(F/8, 17mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 7D)

I did a similar shot back on day number 9, and I thought I should redo the shot with the colorful leaves on the trees.  I still don't care for these trees and I am always working to get them replaced with something else.

296/366 - "Lonely Leaf"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

The leaves are following fast now and today this lonely leaf found its way onto the railing of our front porch.

295/366 - "Hulton Bridge"

(F/8, 24mm, 3 Exposures, ISO 200, Canon 5D Mk II)

I grabbed a quick series of shots this afternoon and was able to manage a handheld HDR photo of the Hulton Bridge.

294/366 - "10/20"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/125 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

Yesterday was our 10/20 Brewfest.  Thanks to all those that participated in any way and a special thanks to Jim and Carol for hosting it.  Everyone had a great time enjoying great food, beers, and fun.  Hopefully this will become an annual event.

293/366 - "Fort Pitt Bridge"

(F/8, 50mm, 1/400 sec, ISO 800, Canon 7D)

I was sitting in traffic and was able to get a photo as I exited the Fort Pitt Tunnel.  If only I had the wide angle lens with me instead of the 50mm.  Maybe next time.

292/366 - "Gullwing"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/100 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Jonah was playing the other day with some of his cars.  This one has some special meaning because my grandpa had the 1956 version and I was lucky enough to get to ride in it as a kid.  Unfortunately he sold it in the early 1980's before I was able to drive it.

291/366 - "Bubbles"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/320 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

After dinner it was time for some bubbles.  This did not last very long, there was a sharing conflict that was not able to be resolved.

290/366 - "Six"

(F/5.6, 100mm, 1/320 sec, ISO 200, Canon 5D Mk II)

Hard to believe our little guy is six years old today.  Happy Birthday Jonah!!!

289/366 - "Drive By Landscape - Stormy Skies"

(F/8, 17mm, 1/1600 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

Here is installment #2 of "Drive By Landscape".  Occasionally I will get stuck in traffic on the Highland Park Bridge and today it was the perfect spot with a really cool sky.  Storms were passing through the area this afternoon.  After processing this image I realized there is a rainbow in the distance (bottom left) that can be seen if you look really close.

288/366 - "Leaves"

(F/2.8, 200mm, 1/320 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

After dinner we went for a nice little walk.  Most of the trees in Oakmont are in full autumn color.  Everyone is out raking and blowing their leaves, well most everyone.  This yard (not mine) is full of leaves which actually makes for a very colorful photograph.

287/366 - "So Many"

(F/4, 97mm, 1/1000 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Today we went to the pumpkin patch.  We were all surprised by how many pumpkins were in this years crop.  So many to choose from and only so much room in our wagon.

286/366 - "Stay Focused"

(F/8, 50mm, 1/1600 sec, ISO 800, Canon 7D)

Today on the way home I decided to take a photo purposely out of focus.  At 286 days in I need to stay focused to get through this year of photos.  I am to the point where I wake up in the morning and can't remember the photo that was taken the day before.  This is becoming a one big blur.

285/366 - "10.11.12"

(F/2.8, 100mm, 1/125 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Today's date is 10.11.12.  Enjoy!

284/366 - "Bucket-O-Harper"

(F/3.2, 50mm, 1/80 sec, ISO 100, Canon 7D)

Jonah received some Lincoln Logs for his birthday and Harper decided to dump them and play in the bucket.  She was having a blast so I decided to take my shot for the day.  Once the camera was pointed at her the face went stone cold serious.  I think this year of photos is getting to her.  Lucky for her and the rest of the family there is not many days left.

283/366 - "Waiting"

(F/7.1, 50mm, 1/250 sec, ISO 100, Canon 7D)

Everyday Jonah and I wait in line to get through the intersection you can't see...way down there.

282/366 - "Morning Mums"

(F/4, 100mm, 1/160 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Our neighbors back yard is packed full of mums.  I had to go out this morning while there was still some morning dew on them to get a shot.

281/366 - "Mine"

(F/1.4, 50mm, 1/80 sec, ISO 250, Canon 7D)

Harper is your typical toddler in some respects and when she thinks something is hers she will let you know.

280/366 - "Morning Toadstool"

(F/8, 100mm, 1/50 sec, ISO 400, Canon 5D Mk II)

I was outside this morning putting away the porch furniture and raking leaves.  I haven't cut the grass in a few weeks which has resulted in several toadstools popping up in our yard.

279/366 - "Emotion"

(F/2.8, 200mm, 1/200 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

This is Harper telling me her chalk is broken.

278/366 - "Drive By Landscape - Blawnox"

(F/2.8, 50mm, 1/1250 sec, ISO 100, Canon 7D)

So over the last several weeks I have been taking a camera to work so I have it for any random photo opportunities.  While Jonah and I were on our way home I rolled down my window at a stop light and was able to get this landscape looking across the river towards Blawnox.  I may have to start a series called Drive By Landscapes.

277/366 - "Should I Jump?"

(F/2.8, 70mm, 1/400 sec, ISO 800, Canon 5D Mk II)

We were out front talking with our neighbor Kathy while the kids were burning off their dessert.  At this particular moment Jonah was contemplating jumping from one side of the staircase to the other side (roughly 5 feet wide).  He wisely decided the best course of action was to jump down to the sidewalk instead.

276/366 - "That Time of Year"

(F/2.8, 95mm, 1/250 sec, ISO 100, Canon 5D Mk II)

Tonight after my bike ride with dad I went out front to snap a few photos of the leaves on the sidewalk.  It is that time of year and I will be raking for the next couple months.

275/366 - "Cousins"

(F/5.6, 70mm, 1/40 sec, ISO 400, Canon 5D Mk II)

I was able to grab a few shots of the kids on our wall after the great buckeye hunt.  It has been nice having the kids all back together again for a couple days.
